Meet the Team
Dick McCann, President of McCann Fabrication
Dick entered the metal working industry in December 1966 at Hamilton & Son Sheet Metal in Auburn Maine as a Sheet Metal Apprentice. He completed his apprenticeship in the winter of 1970 and became a Sheet Metal Mechanic, assuming the responsibility of running jobs both in fabrication and installation.
In the mid 70s, Hamilton affiliated with Lothar Bachmann who later founded Bachmann Industries (now Wahlco), manufacturers of industrial dampers and expansion joints. The growing company gave Dick the opportunity to climb the ladder of success. Dick worked as Shop Supervisor, Production Planner, Field Technician, and, finally, as VP of Manufacturing until the summer of 1983.
Dick left Hamilton's in 1983 to found McCann Fabrication with his brother Bill McCann. McCann Fabrication was operated out of Dick's long-time pal Alan Plummer's garage for a few months before it relocated into a warehouse adjacent to the current facility. In the fall of 1988, the building at 1027 Lewiston Road was erected. The new facility proved to be very successful and was expanded in 1997, and again in 2008 to become the 26,400 square foot shop it is today.
Dick says that "McCann Fabrication will always be a family business, as my sons Rick, Dennis, and Jonny Ray share the everyday responsibilities of keeping our business ship in good sailing order. The success of our business is also shared with all of our employees, for without them there would be no business. We have a work force of thirty of the best people in the industry. I have always felt very strongly about good employer-employee relationships because it is the main strength of a business. We have shared thirty-three years, and I am sure we will share thirty-three more."
Dick is an avid golfer and enjoys traveling south to enjoy that past time more often than Maine can allow. Dick is an active Mason, having served as the Secretary of the Cumberland Lodge for numerous years, as well as being a Past Master. He is also a Shriner and has served as President of the Maine Manufacturers Association in addition to volunteering on their Scholarship Committee for many years. Dick spent many years coaching youth baseball and has served as Captain of the Fire Department. Dick lives in New Gloucester with his wife Jill.
Dennis McCann, Production Manager
Dennis started working at McCann Fabrication after serving as a Marine, and now has nearly thirty years with the company. Dennis took night classes and worked on the shop floor as a machinist and fabricator before serving as the Shop Supervisor for over fifteen years. Dennis enjoys hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and camping with his wife and sons. He was instrumental in setting up the New Gloucester Veterans Monument, and even ran a mile for every veteran named on the monument. Dennis says, "We have a very talented and experienced workforce and are capable of meeting any of your fabrication needs."
Rick joined McCann Fabrication in 1988 after a four-year tour with the U.S. Air Force, and he worked his way up through the ranks to become V. P. of Sales. Rick started with general maintenance work, worked as shipper/receiver, apprenticed under many skilled fabricators, worked in QC, and has completed many classes associated with metal fabrication. He is an active member of the Maine Manufacturers Association, the Cumberland Lodge, and the New Gloucester Veterans Memorial Committee. In addition, he is a very involved member of the Gray-New Gloucester communities, volunteering many hours to coach youth sports. Rick lives in New Gloucester with his wife Sarah and son Nick, and enjoys hunting, fishing, golfing, and spending time with his family.
Jon joined McCann Fabrication in 2001 after attending Northeastern University, working as a journeyman electrician, and managing two companies in the automotive industry. Jon started working on the shop floor, and his diverse background allowed him to very quickly grasp the intricacies of the custom metal fabrication business. He worked as Shop Supervisor before moving into his present position as an Outside Salesperson. He is a Master Mason at Cumberland Lodge and has been a youth basketball and baseball coach for eight years. Jon lives in Poland with his wife Angela and four sons and loves to hunt, fish, boat, and golf.
Robbie McKinley, Susan Lejonhud, and John Knightly
Robbie McKinley has over thirteen years with the company, having worked as our Maintenance Manager for many years before taking on the position of Supervisor and more recently moving into outside sales. Rob is an active Mason, being a Past Master and Past High Priest of the Tyrian Lodge. In addition, Robbie is the Pipe Major of the Kora Highlanders, a bagpipe and drum unit of the Kora Shrine.
Susan Lejonhud is our Controller. She started working at McCann Fabrication twenty years ago when her four children were small. Susan wears many hats in her job and takes good care of "the guys at work." Susan is obsessed with horses and loves trail riding. She is also a breeder of Labrador Retrievers, a Deaconess and Trustee at Hebron Community Baptist Church, and has served as a 4H Leader.
